The Autocar–Courland Next Generation Award
This award was established in 2009 in partnership with Courland Automotive Practice and with support from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). It was set up as a national competition to identify, support and develop top automotive talent of the future.
Entrants from UK universities are invited each year, to answer a brief set by Autocar’s Editor–in–chief, Steve Cropley. Submissions are welcomed from all disciplines, including – but not limited to – engineering, marketing and communications, design and media.
From all entrants, the six best attend a Dragon’s Den–style judging day at the home of Autocar, where they are given the chance to present their ideas to a panel of leading industry executives. Three finalists are then invited to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ annual dinner, where the winner is announced.
The winner receives a substantial cash prize as well as one month’s work experience at each of the leading automotive organisations supporting the award. Previous partners include Honda, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Toyota and Skoda.
