London, 11 January 2018: Haymarket Consumer Media today announces two key editorial appointments at Classic & Sports Car - the world’s best-selling classic car media brand. Giles Chapman returns to the C&SC brand as editor of the magazine, and Marc McLaren moves across from Stuff as digital development editor for classicandsportscar.com, at the start of what promises to be a busy and exciting year for the brand.
The pair bolster the Classic & Sports Car team as the brand moves into a period of expansion. There are ambitious plans to further develop and improve the magazine, as well as building on the successful relaunch late last year of www.classicandsportscar.com. The announcement of The Classic & Sports Car Show in association with Flywheel adds a new arm to the brand, bringing it closer to the enthusiasts that are at the heart of C&SC.
Giles's career began in car industry consultancy before moving into magazine publishing in 1985. His magazine 'apprenticeship' was served on C&SC in its very early days, and when he launched Your Classic magazine for Haymarket in 1989 he was just 24. In 1991 he became editor of C&SC for the first time, and then had a brief stint on Autocar. From 1994 he started his wide-ranging travels through the motoring media world, writing for national newspapers, authoring more than 40 books on diverse car culture subjects, consulting to publishers, broadcasters and automotive brands, and winning several awards for his work.
Giles says: "This is a thrilling opportunity to return to the magazine I love, and use all my very wide experience to keep it driving forward. Classic cars are about dreams, aspirations and nostalgia, and I'm privileged to have a team of writers and photographers who love bringing this to our readers."
Marc spent seven years on Stuff, joining as Production Editor in 2010 before becoming Digital Editor in 2014. During his time as Editor, Stuff.tv achieved record traffic figures, expanded on to new platforms including Apple News and MSN, and tapped into new revenue streams such as affiliate and syndication. Before joining Stuff, Marc was Production Editor on NME, prior to which he worked on brands including Vogue, Glamour and the News of The World.
Marc says: "The print version of Classic & Sports Car is already the clear market leader, and there's no reason why the online version can't be every bit as successful. There's a potentially huge new audience out there, and I'll be working closely with the product and development teams to tap into it. I can't wait to get started."
Alastair Clements, Group Head of Content adds: "I'm thrilled to welcome Giles and Marc to the C&SC family. Giles is one of the UK's foremost authorities on classic cars, not to mention a brilliant writer and editor with huge experience in the publishing industry, while Marc brings with him an enviable reputation as a digital strategist and developer of online communities. Their talents are just what we need as we start to implement our exciting plans for 2018."
