Caples Awards calls for UK judges and entries

The John Caples International Awards, the global direct marketing awards run by Haymarket title DM News, are calling for UK judges and entries from UK agencies. This year also sees two new categories – art direction and copywriting.

The Caples awards judges entries on the basis of creativity alone – one of the few sets of marketing awards to do so.

Winning campaigns are assessed for innovation and fresh thinking in art, copy and concept.

The awards are also one of the longest-running: the Caples were founded in 1978 by Andi Emerson, a direct marketing pioneer, to honour copywriter John Caples.

The deadline for entries is 28 September, with judging taking place on 5–6 November 2009.

Caples organisers Haymarket Media are adding two new categories – Best Art Direction and Best Copywriting – to this year’s line-up.

Nearly 60 out of a final tally of 100 judges – full-time creative directors with at least five years’ experience – have been confirmed, three of whom are from the UK.

“Winners of the Caples are recognised by their peers as true craftsmen and women,” said Cara Wood, DM News’ editor-in-chief. “It’s more than an awards show – it’s a way to think about and honour the creative.”

Pilar Mustafa, senior events manager at Haymarket Media, added: “All entries go through rigorous review by our judges. Our number of finalists and winners varies each year, depending on the level of creative work submitted. This makes a Caples Award a coveted item for the creative team as well as the agency/company submitting.”

The Creative Jam, a session of workshops and brainstorming to support creativity, will run on the day of the awards ceremony, after its successful launch last year.
