SC Magazine US takes top national awards

Haymarket’s SC Magazine in the US has won two top national awards in a contest for business editors and writers, as well as five awards for its region in the same competition.

In this year’s American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) Annual Awards of Excellence, SC received two national gold awards, along with two northeast region gold awards and three Silver awards.

ASBPE, which was founded in 1964, is the professional association for editors and writers in business and specialty publishing. The organisation’s yearly awards contest is highly competitive as it showcases the best in editorial, design and online achievement (although, this year, digital awards will be given at a separate future event).

In the 2009 competition, SC’s winnings were:

National ASBPE awards:
Annual Buyers Guide category – Gold Award: ‘Reboot’ issue, December 2008
Product Section/Department category – Gold Award: Product section (includes SC’s technology editor’s introduction, group tests and first looks)

Northeast Region ASBPE awards:
Feature Article, Design category – Gold Award: CEO Survey 2008: ‘View from the top’
Original Research category – Gold Award: CEO Survey 2008: ‘View from the top’
Feature Article, Design category – Silver Award: ‘The new perimeter’
Original Research category – Silver Award: ‘Salary Survey 2008’ (tie)
Original Research category – Silver Award: ‘Guarding against a data breach’ survey (tie)

Editor-in-chief Illena Armstrong said: “In last year’s competition we won a national gold and regional bronze, so our showing this time around is a giant and outstanding leap ahead – especially during these lean economic times.”
