Digital SLR magazine features Campaign Photo Awards

Digital SLR Photography magazine has described winning images from the first Campaign Photo Awards as “some of the most evocative and hard-hitting imagery from the world of advertising photography”.

In a six-page photo feature in its December 2009 issue, Digital SLR Photography showcases eleven of the winning and shortlisted images – the ones that the magazine’s editors say made them “shudder or gasp in awe and appreciation”.

“It’s quite refreshing to hear the judges of the first Campaign Photo Awards openly say they found the general standard of entries to be very disappointing,” says Digital SLR. “The judges’ standards may have been high, but there is no denying the astounding quality of winning images... Submission to the competition’s 20 categories were rigorously critiqued by a plethora of art directors, art buyers, photographers and photo editors.”

Matthew Davies, Haymarket director of events, said: “Coverage beyond Haymarket’s titles adds strength to the view that we will double the number of entries in 2010, from photographers all over the world.”

Davies praised the team responsible for putting together the awards, which he says have won much acclaim from the advertising world as well as accolades from the likes of Digital SLR.
