Haymarket audits global sustainability strategy with independent third party

The UK and US receive their scores, with Asia, India and Germany to follow 

London, 28 January 2022: Haymarket Media Group today announces the results of its independent sustainability audit for the UK and US business, as part of its global sustainability strategy. EcoVadis, the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings conducted the audit.

Both the US and the UK received a bronze award, narrowly missing silver. Put into context, the UK business scored 53/100 and was in the top 64% and the US scored 52/100, in the top 62%. These scores are above the average of 45/100 when compared to the wider industry. 

The UK business was in the top 21% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the publishing industry, and has the right policies and actions in place to improve and develop on its objectives for the future. The audit tangibly demonstrates Haymarket’s commitment to the continuous improvement of its sustainability approach and contribution.

The audit evaluates policies, procedures and actions in four key areas: 

  1. Environment, 
  2. Labour and human rights, 
  3. Ethics 
  4. Sustainable procurement 

It then provides a score for each area, identifying particular strengths but also where the approach and score can be improved. This provides the important data Haymarket needs to to work on and then audit annually so that progress can be tracked year on year.

Gary Charlton, Haymarket UK’s Head of Procurement, who is responsible for the UK’s supply chain said: “The results we are reporting today are a positive step forward in Haymarket’s commitment to sustainability. Completing our first audit demonstrates that Haymarket is doing a lot right, but more importantly, it clearly shows us where our areas of improvement lie. 

“Sustainability is a continuous journey and we are committed to doing all we can to improve and we are well aware this is a challenging process! We now have a clear plan of action and we are excited to work even harder this year to do our bit to help the future of the planet.”

Haymarket’s global offices have been collaborating on joint initiatives under its global Sustain group. The audit is just one step as Haymarket continues its journey as a progressive business taking action against the climate crisis. 

The results for Asia, India and Germany are to follow in the coming weeks.
